In All posts, News & Events by Jess Linington

Research Fellow in Digital Cultures: Interactive Documentary

(1 year fixed term and part-time 0.5 FTE)

From webdocs to Virtual Reality, docugames to data storytelling and personalisation; digital culture has seen the emergence and proliferation of interactive and participatory documentary forms, and the transformation of twentieth century modes of documentary production, exhibition and reception.

The i-Docs group within the Digital Cultures Research Centre explores these developments and their potential for documentary’s role within the public sphere. We now seek a Research Fellow (0.5) to play a key part in developing the DCRC’s research and knowledge exchange programme in the area of interactive documentary.

The post holder will contribute to the DCRC’s i-Docs research, building on the local, regional, national and international dialogues that have been developed through the i-Docs Symposia 2011,’12 and ‘14, the i-docs.org website and facebook community. They will work in partnership with researchers and creative practitioners on projects that address and/or experiment with the critical or creative potentials of interactive documentary. They will support and initiate the development of proposals to a variety of external funding bodies.

The Research Fellow will assist on increased DCRC initiatives across this theme, taking a lead in co-ordination and organisational support of externally facing research and knowledge exchange activities with a view to maximising impact. In addition to developing and extending their own specific programme of research, they will be expected to publish at an international level. Acting as a member of the editorial team for the DCRC website, they will play an important part in the promotion and external communication of DCRC research.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and focused researcher to develop research in this emerging field as part of a highly engaged critical and creative community.
