1979 Revolution: Black Friday is a docu-game about the Iranian revolution from iNK Stories, an independent studio founded by documentary filmmaker and anthropologist Vassiliki Khonsari and gaming veteran Navid Khonsari.
Named by Independent as one of the ’10 Filmmakers to watch in 2015′, Vassiliki’s keynote at i-Docs 2016 focused on the approach, production and design of 1979 Revolution: Black Friday – coined a ‘Verite Game’ by the studio.
Following the story of the uprising, which began in 1978, you play as Reza Shirazi, a young photojournalist who returns home to Tehran to find his people in a cold-blooded uprising against the ruling King, the Shah.
Vassiliki examines issues such as how to preserve authenticity when merging documentary storytelling and interactive video game play and assessing the power of these new forms of storytelling.
