Welcome to i-Docs 2012: How to get here & things to do!

Arrival on Wednesday

A fair number of people are arriving on Wednesday 21st at various times throughout the day.

So we thought it would be a good idea to get everyone together in one place for a drink in the early evening. If you fancy meeting your fellow delegates in a very informal setting, come over to the Watershed Café/Bar from 18:00. We’ll have a couple of tables reserved and signposted.

It’s very possible to grab dinner at the Watershed, and there are also a number of other options for informal dining within a few minutes walk. Bordeaux Quay, Start the Bus, Krishna’s Inn, Ozrestaurant. There will be a few locals and i-Docs folk around to steer various groups in the right direction

Looking for music? The nearby Louisiana is a classic Bristol venue.

Alternatively the Watershed has a programme of films running in three cinemas – see what’s on!

There’s bowling and a gig (a perfect combination!) at The Lanes.

If you’re feeling up to it, from the UWE Fine Art lecture series: Serena Korda at the Arnolfini – Also have a look at the other exhibitions at the Arnolfini, it’s just over the river from the Watershed.

And if you’re still stuck, download the Headfirst Bristol app to see what else the city has to offer!

Other useful information

There are two mini supermarkets on the city centre. A Sainsbury’s Local and a Tesco’s Express (on College Green)

Thursday – Welcome to i-Docs!

Registration for the day will open at 08:30 at the Watershed Media Centre. The event will be clearly signposted. We’ve tried to make the check in as simple and speedy as possible – please follow the signs to Registration. There will be i-Docs staff to help you find your way.

* As a part of check in we ask that you complete a permission form relating to planned photographic, video and audio documentation on the day.

There’s a secure space for coats and bags/luggage – any available i-Docs staff member will be able to assist you.

i-Docs will kick off promptly at 9:00 with the Welcome address. As we have such a packed schedule for the day, adhering to the timetable will be a priority.

Please Note: During the lunch period eating food you have brought in from elsewhere is not permitted in the Watershed conference space, or the Café/Bar. However, there are plenty of delightful spots to picnic within a minute or two’s walk.

Thursday Evening!

In place of a formal Conference Dinner for Thursday night we’ve booked the restaurant space from 7pm on at a famous and venerable local watering hole and pizza spot – Renato’s. A five minute walk from the Watershed. To keep everything easy and simple we’re asking everyone to kick in £10 each for the pizza on the night and order their drinks separately – or in rounds. There will be plenty to eat – and lots to discuss!

Technical Information

The Watershed has an open wireless network – Watershed Open – which can be accessed throughout the building.

There’s a twitter hash tag for the event – #idocs. Please get involved in the conversation and share your thoughts. We’ve heard from several people, not able to attend and hoping to follow some of the symposium via Twitter.

During the course of the day, an i-Docs staff member may approach you for a quick vox pop interview. If you have time to answer a couple of questions, we’d be most grateful!
